The Tampa YMCA is proud to relaunch our Masters Swim program, an engaging opportunity for adults ages 18 and older, no matter their swimming background, to come together in pursuit of health, personal growth and community.

Masters Swim is much more than a workout; it’s a chance for adults to stay active, sharpen technique and connect with others who share a love of the water. Whether participants are training for competitions, reacquainting themselves with their swimming skills or simply seeking a fun and challenging fitness routine, our program offers a structured environment led by experienced coaches at select YMCA locations.

As we celebrate this exciting relaunch, we are also thrilled to shine a spotlight on one of our very own aquatic leader who is making waves nationally.

Alexis Mendenhall, Director of Competitive Swimming at the Tampa YMCA, has been selected for the 2025 USA Women’s Coaches in Governance Program. This highly competitive program identified only 54 female coaches nationwide for the honor, making Alexis’s achievement even more remarkable. Her selection reflects not only her knowledge of swimming and coaching expertise but also her unwavering commitment to leadership, mentorship and the advancement of women in sports.

The USA Women Coaches in Governance Program empowers female coaches to strengthen their voice, expand their influence and shape the future of sports. Alexis’s selection reflects her commitment to the Y’s Swim League, Tampa Y Stingrays and Tampa Y Masters Swim League.

Ryan Pratt, District Executive Director at the Tampa YMCA, shares, “We are very proud of Alexis and this incredible honor. Her passion for the sport of swimming and her commitment to our athletes are unmatched. The fact that she is one of only 54 coaches in the entire nation to be selected speaks volumes about her talent, leadership and future impact on the world of athletics. She represents the very best of the Tampa YMCA, and we are excited to see how she will use this opportunity to inspire others.”

As we look ahead, the Tampa YMCA remains committed to strengthening lives through aquatics, whether by empowering athletes like Alexis to lead on a national stage or by creating accessible programs, such as Masters Swim, that bring people together in and out of the water. We invite you to join us in supporting aquatics at the Y and to discover how our Masters Swim program can help you achieve your goals, build confidence and connect with a community that cares.
