Lifeguards are brave, responsible, and confident in and around water, and it's not just a job at the Y. Lifeguard Certification is great for parents, guardians and adults of all ages who want to be prepared in the event of an emergency. Successful participants become certified and may apply to be a Tampa Y lifeguard and rule the pool all year long.
Prepare for the physical portion of the lifeguard certification prerequisites test with the new Lifeguard Prep Course. Certified Lifeguard trainers help teens and adults build endurance and strength and focus on lifeguard prerequisites. Participants will practice skills and techniques to properly tread water, swim, dive, etc.
The most popular swim program at the Tampa Y is swim lessons. Formal swim lessons can help people of all ages learn the skills they need to be confident in and around water. The Tampa Y offers several types of swim teams across 10 family centers. From beginner children, to teens, to adults who enjoy competition in the pool, there is a swim team for you. The aquatics leadership staff, coaches and instructors guide swimmers to be their very best.
Water Safety is a priority for the Tampa Y. Through several programs, including free Safety Around Water classes, Mobile Swim Lessons and Water Safety Education, and Head Start Swim Lessons, the Aquatics Department is dedicated to teaching infants, kids, teens and adults water safety skills and how to swim.
