Bob Sierra Y Hosts Health and Wellness Fair for Seniors

Senior Wellness Fair at the Bob Sierra YMCA.
May 15, 2025

In a day and age of virtual information overload, it’s a refreshing change to see live and welcoming events. Our Bob Sierra Family YMCA’s third annual Seniors’ Health and Wellness Fair was a good example of this, as a dozen vendors connected with seniors and members. The free event took place on April 17, 2025. A variety of community groups represented included the Moffitt Cancer Center, Humana, Mutual of Omaha and local volunteer groups, to name a few.

Ranging from skin products to mugs and keychains, visitors enjoyed receiving free samples and learned about the many local community resources. The event saw an estimated 100 attendees.

“We wanted to do something special for our seniors. All the vendors had something specific to this demographic that was health-related, whether physical or mental health. The first year, we had a large number of vendors and we noticed they did not have enough time to chat with the attendees, so we streamlined the event. Some of the vendors are also our major donors. This is the perfect way for them to visit with the community they support,” explained Yaimy Marshall, Executive Director, Bob Sierra Family YMCA.

Delilah Hernandez from Moffit Cancer Center enjoyed the event and found it beneficial for many reasons.

“Cancer prevention awareness is important to us. We want to share information about clinical trials and encourage people to be their own advocates. We are glad to be at the seniors health fair, which is important to reach a wide variety of people to share resources. Our YMCA partnership is wonderful because we have similar goals of health and wellness.”
Laura Rudolph, a sales agent with Humana, also appreciated the Bob Sierra YMCA for the partnership.

“We have a monthly class here, which ranges from diabetes prevention to healthy foods. We are happy to share information and answer questions at the wellness fair. We love partnering with the YMCA as it helps us build relationships.”

Yaimy agrees.

“At Bob Sierra, we have a large senior population. Not all of them are looking to work out on machines or take classes. Some enjoy the social aspect that the Y brings them. Having events like this and connecting them with other partners and resources helps them not only enjoy the social part of the health fair but also meet new people.”
