Tampa YMCA Developmental Swim Team:

This team is all about Kick, Technique, and Fun!

 

The intent of this group is to “Prepare for TEAM”. With a focus on an introduction to the sport of swimming, participants will build on skills learned in swim lessons and learn basic technique of all four strokes. Coaches teach awareness of body in and out of water, streamlines, starts and turns.

 

Ages: 5-12

 

Commitment: Practice 2-3 Days per week, attend monthly “Y” mini-meets

Skills needed: Ability to swim 25 Yards of Backstroke and Freestyle with rotary breathing.

Skills to learn: Refine Free and Back. Learn to swim Butterfly, Breaststroke, basic Starts and Turns

Water time: 60 Minutes (3X per week), Days/Times vary by site.

Middle/High School Conditioning:

This team is all about Fitness and Fun!

 

The intent of this group is to “Be Fit”. With a focus on non-impact aerobic fitness, this program is geared toward Middle School and High School students wanting to compliment your HS team training, prepare for Summer League, or cross train for other sports. This program’s goal is to provide an aerobic workout with some individual stroke instruction in a small group.

 

Ages: 12-18 (7th-12th Graders)

 

Commitment: Practice 2 Days per week.

Skills needed: Ability to swim 25 Yards of Freestyle with rotary breathing, Tread water for 60 Seconds.

Skills to learn: Learn all four competitive strokes, build endurance and confidence.

Water time: 60 Minutes (2X per week), Days/Times vary by site.

Tampa YMCA “Stingrays” Competitive Swim Team:

Keywords are “Fun”damentals, Progression, and Athletic Development!

 

The intent of this TEAM is to teach athletes entering the sport of competitive swimming a foundation of life skill development & technique in a FUN and EXCITING environment. TYS athletes progress from the Bronze group through to Senior by continuing to learn advanced skills and making steady progress toward long-term athletic development.

 

Ages: 7-18 (See group details below)

 

Commitment: Practice 4-6 Days per week (Varies by group), attend YMCA and USA Swimming meets.

Skills needed: Ability to legally swim all four strokes: Fly, Back, Breast, and Free.

Skills to learn: Refine technique and build confidence with all four strokes. Competitive Starts, turns and swim meet etiquette.

Dry-land: All competitive athletes engage in strength, mobility, body awareness, and mental training sessions daily.

 

Groups:

  • Bronze (10 & Under)- Practice 4 Days/week for 90 Minutes each day
  • Silver (11-12’s)- Practice 5 Days/week for 90 Minutes each day
  • Gold (13-14’s)- Practice 5-6 Days/week for 2 Hours each day
  • Senior (HS Age)- Practice 6+ Days/week for 2.5 Hours each day

TYS Masters Swim Team

This team is dedicated to Fitness, Fun, and Athletic Development!

 

The intent of this group is to provide coach led organized workouts for adults ages 18 & over. We welcome tri-athletes, competitive, open water, and recreational swimmers who are committed to improving their fitness through swimming. Competitions are offered locally and regionally by registering with “TYSM” through United States Masters Swimming.

 

Ages: 18+

 

Commitment: Practices are offered 3+ days per week during morning, mid-day, and evening times. Schedules vary by site.

Skills needed: Ability to swim 25 Yards of Freestyle with rotary breathing.

Skills to learn: Refine technique and build confidence through group workouts.

Water time: 60-90 Minutes per practice (Schedules vary by site).
