COMMUNITY STARTS HERE – AdventHealth Community Room Dedication Event
The Spurlino Family YMCA hosted a special gathering on Thursday, May 14th to celebrate the AdventHealth Community Room naming, recognizing a partnership that continues to strengthen our community for families and seniors throughout the Greater Riverview area.
The event brought together YMCA members, staff and community partners, along with leaders from the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA and AdventHealth, in a shared moment of recognition and gratitude. The room was filled with members who regularly use the Spurlino Family YMCA, reflecting the everyday community that gives the space its meaning.
Speakers highlighted how the newly named room will directly support the programs members rely on most, senior wellness and engagement, youth development activities and initiatives that help families stay active, connected and supported. Rather than focusing only on the partnership itself, the gathering centered on the people who experience its impact day to day, and how this space will continue to serve them in practical, meaningful ways.
Jarrod Williams, Executive Director of the Spurlino Family YMCA, shared his appreciation for the moment, saying, “This means so much to our YMCA. It represents not just a partnership, but the impact we’re able to make together for our members and our community every single day.”
During the program, Spurlino Y member Alex Glover shared his personal story about what the YMCA has meant to him. He spoke about how the Y has become a meaningful part of his daily life, a place where he has found not only a healthier lifestyle but community and a sense of belonging that gives him purpose. He reflected on the relationships he’s built and the role the YMCA has played in supporting his personal journey.
Dr. Rainer Chan, Chief Medical Officer AdventHealth Riverview, also spoke during the program, emphasizing the importance of community and the role of preventative care in building healthier outcomes over time. He reflected on how spaces like the YMCA contribute to that mission by making wellness, connection and education more accessible. He also noted that AdventHealth is continuing to learn from and deepen its understanding of the community it serves through partnerships like this, strengthening its ability to meet local needs in a more informed and responsive way.
The Spurlino Family YMCA extended gratitude to the AdventHealth team, Dr. Chan, Jason Newmyer, Dean Whaley, Shane Cimock, Ayanna Horton, Patricia Montgomery and all who contributed to making the day possible. Their continued collaboration with the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA helps ensure that spaces like this one will continue to serve the community for years to come.
