Our thanks to Deloitte volunteers for choosing Tampa Y for their annual Impact Day last month. They visited the Veggie Van, our mobile marketplace, which serves nutritious food and vegetables to food deserts in Tampa Bay.
A well-known international firm, Deloitte “provides audit and assurance, tax and legal, consulting, risk advisory, and financial advisory services to a broad cross-section of the largest corporations and governmental agencies around the world.”
The group of 22 volunteers painted the Veggie Van window bars and packed and organized 600lbs of fresh produce and fruit, which equals 5,000 meals. The produce they packed helped the Tampa YMCA Veggie Van serve over 500 seniors and families throughout Hillsborough and East Pasco counties. The team also contributed $1,827 of labor according to the current value for each volunteer hour of $27.68.
“Impact Day is an opportunity for those who work at Deloitte to step out into the community and give back to those who give so much! It is a pillar of our Deloitte values,” explains Sheila Bradley, Senior in International Tax at Deloitte.
“The Tampa Y was chosen as it provides a variety of positive services to the Tampa area. We were interested in the Veggie Van as it serves underserved communities who need additional support. Our day entailed of learning about the Veggie Van from Elizabeth, painting a new space (window bars and the bathroom) that will be utilized for the Veggie Van and packing the fridge. We really enjoyed the experience and were grateful to learn about how the Veggie Van supports our community. We collectively received positive feedback and jumped in as best we could to help out. Thank you for having us and giving us the opportunity to help out! We will be back,” Bradley enthused.
Elizabeth Roman, Tampa Y’s Mobile Food Market Director appreciated the volunteers and enjoyed working with them.
