Since its inception, the Tampa Y has focused on community service, either by opening our doors to those in search of living healthier lives or through outreach activities that take us beyond our Y walls and into the surrounding community. Founded in 1889, the Tampa Y is the oldest human service organization in Hillsborough County and we believe lasting personal and social change is best accomplished when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors.
Sulphur Springs YMCA
The YMCA READS! Program seeks to close the gap in students’ reading performance and the State of Florida’s reading performance expectations. The program meets the educational and developmental needs of students by providing structured and supervised services.
The Tampa YMCA relies heavily on the support of volunteers to help coach sports teams, plan events, raise funds and handle hundreds of other key responsibilities. In 2012, more than 8,500 volunteers donated valuable time that would have been worth nearly a quarter million dollars if they were paid employees.
The Veggie Van is a mobile market place that works to meet the needs of individuals and families living in underserved areas of Hillsborough and East Pasco counties.
