Lifeguard Certification In Tampa, Brandon, Carrollwood, New Tampa & Other Central Florida Cities

The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA is offering some very special classes this summer. Are you looking for a great summer job? Our lifeguard certification course in Westchase, Fishhawk, Tampa Palms and Bloomingdale is the place to start. Through group discussion, hands-on practice and classroom activities, you can receive your lifeguard certification. You will learn lifeguarding techniques, rescue skills, accident prevention and emergency systems.

 

You will need the following prerequisites to attend this lifeguard certification class:

 

  • Must be at least 16 before the first day of class
  • Must be able to tread water for 2 minutes using your legs only
  • Must be able to continuously swim for 350 yards
  • Must feet-first surface dive in 8 to 10 feet of water and swim under water 15 feet

 

In order to receive a lifeguard certification, you must arrive on time for every class session, participate and attend 100% of all classes, complete all eLearning assignments on time, score 80% or better on every written test, demonstrate every skill proficiently, pass all scenario tests and demonstrate maturity, responsibility and respect. When you have successfully completed the course you will be certified in oxygen administration, first aid, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, and you’ll be certified in YMCA lifeguarding.

 

There are many other swim classes available this summer at the Tampa Area YMCA. There are Infant swim and parent/child classes, preschool (ages 3 to 5) and youth classes (ages 6 to 12), teen and adult classes (age 13+) and even private classes for ages 3 to adult. In the 6 to 12 age bracket, there is the polliwog section, which focuses on rudimentary leg and arm movements (backstroke and freestyle), basic breath control, swimming with a flotation device and independent swimming. There is also a guppy class, a combination polliwog and guppy class, a minnow class, fish class, and combination minnow and fish class, which focuses on refinement of backstroke, elementary backstroke and freestyle.
