The Tampa YMCA Summer Camp team members will have the opportunity to experience working on a team, lead and direct groups of children, provide support and encouragement to all campers, serve as a role models, and make a difference in the community. Junior Camp Counselor

 

This role is perfect for high school age teens who want to pursue a career working with children in the areas of education, youth sports/physical activity, and youth development. Junior Counselors will help Counselors and Activity Specialists promote positive character values in a caring environment while learning how to lead youth in activities such as sports, swimming, arts & crafts and indoor/outdoor games. This role is a challenging opportunity and in-depth experience working with and leading children and a great first step into a career in youth development.

 

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Interest and/or some experience providing child supervision, child education, coaching youth sports, working with children, etc.
  • Must be available 9am-4pm Monday – Friday

 

Pay range:  $8.50/hour

Camp Counselor I

 

This role is an entry level camp leadership role, great for high school seniors, recent high school graduates and college students. The Counselor leads a group of campers in various indoor and outdoor activities, including but not limited to arts & crafts, sports, swimming, and more. Counselor I staff members will engage and support campers throughout the day and each week of camp. This role is an excellent opportunity to fine tune leadership skills and gain experience working with children.

 

Requirements

  • Must be at least 17 years of age
  • Experience leading a group of children
  • Prior experience as CIT/Jr. Counselor/Youth Leader – Preferred
  • Must be available 9am-4pm Monday – Friday

 

Pay range:  $8.75-$10/hour

Counselor II

 

This role is an elevated leadership role and a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about youth development and education (for example: college students and graduates, teachers, educators, etc.). Staff in this role will lead a group of campers and may have the opportunity to plan camp programs. Counselor II staff members have excellent leadership skills and are confident overseeing a group of children, excel in engaging and encouraging children and communicating with staff and parents.

 

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Experience leading a group of children
  • Comfortable/experience planning programs
  • Prior experience as CIT/Jr. Counselor/Youth Leader – Preferred
  • Must be available 9am-4pm Monday – Friday

 

Pay range:  $10-$14/hour

Camp Activity Specialist I

 

This role is great for anyone with expertise in specialized activities such as art, performance, nature, etc. The Activity Specialist I is responsible for creating curriculum, providing engaging educational activities, and leading a group of campers as they rotate through specialist sessions.

 

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Confident creating curriculum in assigned activity
  • Experience leading a group of children – Preferred
  • Expert knowledge in specialty activities like: arts & crafts, music, archery, science, nature/outdoor education, and others
  • Must be available 9am-4pm Monday – Friday, flexible hours may apply

 

Pay range:  $10-$14/hour

Camp Activity Specialist II

 

This role is for anyone with expertise and/or professional experience teaching specialized activities such as dance, gymnastics, horse training/riding, etc. The Activity Specialist II fulfills a leadership role and manages Specialty Camp or Activity Center in their field. They are responsible for creating and executing curriculum and leading campers. These individuals have excellent leadership skills and are confident overseeing a group of children and excel in engaging and encouraging children as well as communicating with staff and parents.

 

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Confident creating curriculum in assigned activity
  • Activities include: gymnastics, dance, performing arts, horseback riding, waterfront, Alpine and/or High Ropes
  • Must provide certifications and qualifications in area of expertise
  • Must be available 9am-4pm Monday – Friday

 

Pay range:  $12-$16/hour

Pre/Post Junior Camp Counselor

 

This role is perfect for high school age teens who want to pursue a career working with children in the areas of education and youth development but may not have the 9am-4pm availability required for other positions. This individual promotes positive character values in a caring environment while learning how to lead youth in camp game and activities. This position supports Counselors and/or Activity Specialists before and/or after regular camp hours.
