The Y is a Favorite Among Gym-Goers

A new study found gym-goers prefer their local YMCA over all other national providers or fitness programs. More than 2,700 consumers who reported having gym memberships with national brands participated in the online study. When fitness centers were evaluated based on member satisfaction and their likelihood to recommend the center to others, the YMCA ranked first with 51 percent.

The survey also ranked the top fitness centers by amenities, and the YMCA led in nine out of 12, including fitness classes, quality of weightlifting equipment, swimming pools and basketball courts. The study also showed one in four is dissatisfied with the gym they’ve chosen, and one in 10 is likely to change gyms soon. Y members are also the least likely to switch, which is not surprising considering it is ranked as the favorite fitness center. To top it off, Y personal trainers also received some of the highest approval ratings of all the national brands studied.

The new data is no surprise considering all the Y offers the community. And this year, the Tampa Y has even more opportunities to better your mind, body and spirit! Our centers are more equipped than ever with the latest fitness techniques and technology, innovatively-designed wellness centers and supportive staff. Many of our Ys have expanded and/or renovated their Kid Zone Learning & Play Centers, where kids can learn about teamwork, relationship-building and other life skills. Meanwhile, adults can take advantage of all the Y has to offer, including wellness centers with brand new state-of-the-art strength training equipment. Many of our Ys also offer a Max Results room for individual and group training; new cardio equipment with internet capabilities, Olympic lifting equipment, bumper plates and faster Wi-Fi service.

A 2016 community health assessment conducted by the Dept. of Health – Hillsborough County revealed encouraging healthy behaviors and healthy lifestyles as our community’s #1 opportunity to improve overall health.  The study specifically cited the Y as a community resource and advocate for healthy lifestyles.

With the new gear comes new ways to improve your health and help your kids succeed. Thank you for your support as we continuously improve our facilities and programs to better serve you and the community.
