As a not-for-profit organization, the YMCA relies heavily on the support of volunteers to help coach sports teams, plan events, raise funds, and handle hundreds of other key responsibilities. In 2007, nearly 4,000 volunteers donated time to the YMCA that would have been worth more than $1,224,000 if they were paid employees.

The YMCA understands that you volunteer your time for many reasons--but that your primary motivation is to give back in a significant way to your community. For this reason, we are committed to the long-term training and development of volunteers so that they can become meaningfully integrated into YMCA programs and operations. All volunteers must complete a volunteer application, background screening and Child Abuse Prevention Training.
