| Climbing Life’s Mountains… with help from the Campo Y |
|
Right now, Campo Y member Jami Fencel is stretching beyond her comfort zone and climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro – not just to challenge herself, but as a tribute to her sister-in-law who is once again battling cancer. Jami never considered herself an athlete, and admits to being involved with the Y through her children’s activities until the girls were grown. “Nicole and Jordan got their wings, and moved forward…. Now Jami was going to have to find her inspiration and move forward too!” she explains, and found herself making new friends and taking on challenges like mountain biking, triathlons, camping, and – now – mountain climbing all thanks to the Campo Y. While she can be seen on the Stairmaster wearing her full backpack to train, Jami’s thoughts have been with her sister-in-law Joa who is fighting stage 4 cancer and taking on a challenge equal to the 19,234 foot Mt. Kilimanjaro. Jami hopes those who wish to support her and Joa’s battle will support the Campo Y and its Livestrong Program, a support program for cancer survivors which Jamie has seen in action at the branch. In fact, Jami and her family are so committed to supporting Livestrong at the Campo Y that she will match all donations made in her name to the program this month! Along with fellow climbers Ginny Miller and Connie Boudreaux, Jami will tackle Mt. Kilimanjaro September 13-25. Right now you can support her and the Livestrong Program at Campo Y by making a donation in Jami’s name.
Contact the Campo Y at (813) 684-1371 or donate online via Jami’s special link.
