Does the Tampa YMCA help those in financial need?

As a not-for-profit charitable organization, the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA strives to make membership and programs accessible to all, regardless of their financial circumstances. To apply for financial assistance, bring proof of your total household income when you come to join the YMCA. We prefer a copy of your most recent tax return; we will refer to line #4 on the 1040EZ, line #22 on the 1040 long form, or Schedule C if you're self employed. Please contact your local YMCA branch if you have questions about the approval process.

Our Annual Giving Campaign raises funds to help provide financial assistance for membership and program fees. If you would like to make a gift to support the campaign, please visit our online donor center.

How can I save on my membership?

We offer several great ways to save money on your Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA membership--and ensure you'll always have a workout buddy!

Refer a Friend, Get a Month Free
Download and print a Friend Referral Card, write your name and membership ID number (found on your membership card) and give to a friend. Tell them to bring the card when they join any Tampa YMCA, and we'll make sure you get a free month! You can also pick up cards at your YMCA Welcome Center.

Through the generosity of donors to our Annual Giving Campaign, financial assistance is available for membership and program fees. To apply for financial assistance, please visit your local YMCA for more information.

Traveling?  Use the AWAY Program!
The Tampa YMCAs do participate in the AWAY program which allows members of other YMCAs to attend our YMCA for up to two weeks. In return, Tampa Y members can attend YMCAs abroad who also participate in the AWAY program.  Please call a location prior to visiting for specific policies.

Out-of-Town visiting YMCA Members with a valid membership card from a YMCA that participates in the AWAY (Always Welcome At The Y) program are welcome to use the Tampa YMCA facilities for up to 10 days in a year. All guests are required to sign a wavier of liability.

Is there a 2nd Child Discount for programs and activities?

2nd child discounts apply to Holiday or Summer camp as well as Afterschool programs only. Both children must be registered and attend the same time period in order for the discount to be applied. If children are attending different weeks the discount would not apply.

What YMCA Facilities in the Greater Tampa Bay Area can I use?

With your membership to the Tampa YMCA you may also visit YMCAs in Pinellas & Polk counties at no cost to you.

If you live in Tampa and have joined a Tampa YMCA, you are granted unlimited access to any YMCA in Pinellas or Polk counties.

If you live in Pinellas County but work in Tampa and have joined the Tampa YMCA, your membership will not be reciprocated in Pinellas & Polk counties, because your home branch must be in the same area in which you reside.

How can I get a Guest Pass?

The Tampa YMCA will issue one (one day) guest pass to any person each year to sample our great YMCA facilities & programs. Simply visit your local YMCA branch for a tour and you will receive a guest pass upon request.

Days of the week that guests are permitted may vary by facility. Please contact the facility you plan to visit for more details. All guests must present a picture ID. Guests under 18 must be signed for by the guest’s parent.

What is the Y's Guest Policy?

  • Guests from out of the area that are visiting with a YMCA member may take advantage of 10 free visits per year; any additional visits will cost $15 per visit ($30 per family).
  • An AWAY member with a valid membership card from another YMCA may take advantage of 10 free visits per year; any additional visits will cost $5 per visit ($10 per family).
  • Guests from out of the area, visiting without a YMCA member, may pay $15 per visit ($30 per family).
  • Local guests may take advantage of 3 free visits per year, and may visit up to 3 additional times at a cost of $15 per visit ($30 per family).
  • A YMCA member may have up to 2 guests with them per visit (i.e. an individual can have 2 guests with them at any given time, each member of a family membership may have 2 guests each)
  • Spectators may attend activities as non-participants without a restriction on number of visits. May sign in on a designated sign-in sheet that includes the release from liability.

Do I have to pay a joining fee again if I am a previous member of the YMCA?

If your membership has been inactive for more than 30 days, you must pay the joining fee to renew your membership. If you are from a YMCA other than Tampa and can provide us with a letter on their stationary stating that you paid their YMCA association or branch a joining fee, then you will receive a credit towards the Tampa Metro YMCA joining fee for that amount previously paid.

How can I cancel my YMCA membership?

In the event you must cancel your YMCA membership, please plan to come to the YMCA in person. Your membership is very important to us, and we want to handle each membership cancellation with the attention it deserves. Please note that if you pay your membership by automatic bank draft, you must cancel your membership by the 20th of the month if you want the cancellation to take effect and not be charged the next month. For example, someone canceling their membership on January 19th will be drafted on January 20th but will not be drafted in February.

What is the Employer Identification Number / Tax ID for the Tampa YMCA?

The EIN for the Tampa Metro YMCA is 59-1742909. There is one tax id for our entire organization.
