My name is Imani.  I have been a member of the YMCA for over eight years.  I started coming to the Y because my mom wanted me to participate in safe and supportive activities while she worked.  She also wanted to make sure I was surrounded by people who modeled positive, responsible behavior.

Did you know that 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on school days is prime time for violent juvenile crime?  Fortunately, I am at the Y every afternoon and participate in programs where I learn to resist negative peer pressure and avoid dangerous situations.  I also discover how important it is to exercise restraint by not using drugs or alcohol.

 

I love coming to the Y after the school day is over.  Thank you for giving me a chance to be safe!
