Y Teen Achievers have a lot to celebrate! Earlier this month, JPMorgan Chase sponsored a Teen Achievers FCAT party at the Bob Gilbertson Central City YMCA. This special event celebrated graduating seniors and prepared sophomores and juniors for the Florida Comprehensive Achievement Test. Program Director Wayne Johnson praised the room packed with Blake High students, “You hold each other accountable and that’s the kind of thing the Y needs to see. A lot of people said, ‘Oh you have Teen Achievers? They’re going to have their pants sagging. They’re going to bring drugs in there.’ And you all dispelled that myth and I am so proud of you!”

Raising three young children is the last thing Mary Snell thought she’d be doing in her mid-60s. But it’s the role she found herself playing after her son and daughter-in-law ran into trouble with the law. For the past five years, Mary and her husband have had full custody of her grandchildren: 11-year-old Cory, 10-year-old Jasmine and 8-year-old Xavier. “I’ve raised the parents and now I’m raising their kids,” says Mary.
