Darlene Leflar started taking her son, Vincent “Vinni” Piselli, to the Bob Sierra Family YMCA ten years ago. As a single mother from out-of-state, Darlene turned to the Y to help keep Vinni engaged. And he’s been busy ever since, participating in about 75 team sports programs, attending several summer camps and racking up numerous trophies. Darlene says, “I have watched Vincent grow from a 5-year-old kid at the Y, to a 14-year-old with a plan. The values that were instilled in Vincent from the counselors and coaches here are exactly the values any mother would want for their child.”

Climbing Life’s Mountains… with help from the Campo Y |

Right now, Campo Y member Jami Fencel is stretching beyond her comfort zone and climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro – not just to challenge herself, but as a tribute to her sister-in-law who is once again battling cancer. Jami never considered herself an athlete, and admits to being involved with the Y through her children’s activities until the girls were grown. “Nicole and Jordan got their wings, and moved forward…. Now Jami was going to have to find her inspiration and move forward too!” she explains, and found herself making new friends and taking on challenges like mountain biking, triathlons, camping, and – now – mountain climbing all thanks to the Campo Y.
